“I promise over the next 30 days never to eat sugar, wheat, barley or rye, or processed food with difficult words I cannot read!”
Congratulations. You are now officially signed in to the SoHot 30day Body Challenge.
The first week has been hard for most of you who joined this challenge. Making a drastic change in your eating habits is not easy and I am here to help you all the way to answer questions you have.
Some have asked if it is ok to use honey or coconut sugar. If you are using two sugars in your tea, transitioning to honey or coconut sugar is okay but let me remind you that one of the key goals for this challenge is to change your taste buds to not need the sweet stuff. Imagine if you could live life without needing to sweeten things up. Imagine if the starchy sugars in vegetables burst into life with nothing added. If you keep your taste buds reliant on sweetened food, you will never achieve get there.
The important thing is that whatever you set out to do, you have to believe that you can do it. Remind yourself everyday why you are doing this challenge. Write down the reasons and when you get to a point where you need to reaffirm yourself, read it. We are all doing it for some various reasons but the important thing is you have to believe that you can do it.
Another question that came up is how deal with the mental part of this challenge. After my class, a woman mentioned her struggle trying to remove wheat from her life. She mentioned her deep frustration removing wheat for a short time and then putting it back in.
Most of you will be experiencing the same struggle. You need to embrace the fact that you are addicted to sugar and wheat and removing them from your diet will make you experience withdrawal symptoms like irritability, nausea, headache, depression, flu and low energy. It happened to me and it’s tough. But knowing the symptoms makes you better equipped for the physical and mental ups and downs!
The good news is that the withdrawal phase last for only 5-7 days. From that point on you are over with the addiction, but you are not out of the woods yet, because habit can make you go back to eating sugar and wheat again. So all you have to do is to not look back and meditation will be the key! But I don’t suggest practicing meditation right now. Get over this first week and remove the frustration and irritability.
Why? Consider this phrase: “What you practice grows stronger!”
If you practice meditation with frustration and irritability, you’ll get good at meditating with frustration and irritability.
Now that you know what to expect you are better able to deal with the problems you will encounter. DON’T BEAT YOURSELF UP!
It’s never too late to start! If you haven’t joined yet or know someone else who could benefit from this challenge — ask them to sign up with you!
